WIP
Karakurt's whole Character arc is just him learning how to have empathy and feel emotions lol, he does so through Waxfly and Waxfly's art (Waxfly's a covert social activist, most of his art centers around humanizing those who have been dehumanized, he paints some very emotional scenes which resonate strongly with Karakurt). Karakurt is Waxfly's muse, Waxfly loves to paint him, mostly because Karakurt's a scary looking Hivewing who inflicts violence and has also lost himself to that identity, and thus really fits into how Waxfly wants to represent the current institution of the hives. Eventually Karakurt breaks away from his job and asks Waxfly how to continue living with himself, Waxfly helps him channel his guilt, shame (and rage) into fighting against Queen Wasp's totalitarian regime, and they finally get to know eachother as people (Waxfly was previously masking his true self and attitudes because Karakurt was the police and he didn't want to get arrested, so Karakurt didn't really know him-- and Waxfly had stripped Karakurt's identity into the one aspect, so didn't really know him either) and they get to have just a bit of time where they connect with and love eachother very dearly-- and then Karakurt dies. Waxfly lives on to see through the events of book 15, and continues to paint Karakurt.
